Sound Setup

If you have an important function or event coming up and you have decided to hire the sound equipment, getting the best value for money will mean knowing how to set it up properly so that the full potential of your set-up is reached. Hiring your own sound equipment is a great alternative to hiring a band or a DJ because you can control what you listen to, at what volume it splayed and at what point you wish to change things up a bit. It also means that you will have the highest quality of sound, whether your function is a corporate event, a wedding, a karaoke evening or an open mic night. Your sound quality has the power to make or break your entire event. It may be tempting to just buy a cheaper sound system, especially if you will be hosting similar events regularly. The truth is that with sound equipment you really pay for the quality of sound you will get, and not the name brand of the system.  Here are some tips on setting up your equipment to get a great sound.

1.    Position

The position of your speakers plays a vital role in the way that the sound waves will be able to travel. The way the sound travels will influence how well it is received. Placing a sound system outdoors can be especially tricky. It is important to place the speakers as close to the crowd as possible and pointing at them. Also ensure that they are positioned so that they don’t project the sound onto something that will reflect it away. Objects in front of the speakers can also absorb the sound, creating a muffled effect.

2.    Height

The ideal elevation for your speakers is head height. This allows for clarity and ease of listening to the audience. Because the sound waves can cause quite a large amount of vibration, it is important to ensure that the speakers are very well attached to their stands or poles to prevent accidents. They should be able to withstand someone knocking the pole or falling against it.

3.    Sound check safety

For the well-being of the sound equipment, and for the sake of every set of ears in a wide radius of your sound equipment, make sure your power amp and your mixer both have their volume completely turned off. A sudden power surge can result in a large popping noise coming from your speakers and great damage can occur.

You could get your own sound engineer to help out if it is a big event, and eventually aim to get your own equipment. Sound hire is also a great way to get to know different sound systems and see which one really clicks with you before you buy. For more information, contact a sound hiring company today.
